Dear STL Supporter,
What’s More Important Than Understanding About End Time Prophecy?
Romans 12: 2 (NJKV) And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
Do telling the truth, integrity and decency matter any longer? Or do they only matter when a person is caught out?
If we look at the moral norms around us, being exposed lying, cheating, being sexually immoral or having double standards, only seem to matter if one gets caught doing the wrong thing these days. And then, sometimes those misdemeanours are just brushed aside as being the norms of life. When low moral acts make the media headlines they become one-day wonders boosting TV ratings and selling more newspapers, until tomorrow when the next scandal is reported. The daily news is full of such exposures. It’s a litmus test of just how much countries that call, or once called themselves Christian, have let go of their grip on the morality of truthfulness, integrity, decency and God ordained marriage relationships.
The very short reported history of the President of the USA, Donald Trump, typifies this. How do you make sense of the leader of the greatest nation on Earth when you try and reconcile his history, with his present, his contradictory tweets and press statements, the allegations of his affairs, the alleged steps he takes to hide those extra-marital expeditions, and his use of voters’ personal data harvested from the internet to win power? The practices of, and turmoil surrounding Donald Trump, have resulted in around 40 per cent of his appointed staff exiting their offices for a wide variety of reasons to this point in time.
However, are Donald Trumps practices so very different from many others in and out of the public eye whether they be politicians, sports people (Even cricketers – with the name of cricket once being synonymous with fair play, integrity and decency – i.e.; the phrase Its just not cricket!), business leaders or civil dignitaries like Lord Mayors? And how about many of us ordinary people who make up the community? What are our standards of truth, integrity and decency like these days. Are the public figures and leaders just the tip of the iceberg and a sample of what is really happening beneath the surface of our society?
History tells us that when a society loses its standards of morality it eventually crumbles.
The Bible describes what happened in the times of Noah and Lot when society threw off all restraints of morality and integrity replacing them with hedonism, sexual aberration and self- centred gratification. God withdrew his blessing and protection and said enough is enough and then the flood came after 120 years of end time warning and fire rained down on Sodom and Gomorrah. Jesus in Luke 17: 26 to 30 (NKJV) extrapolates Noah’s and Lot’s end time scenarios to ours - They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot: They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. Even so will it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed. Well, these social conditions exist universally today! Right now.
Stan Grant, host of the ABC TV’s Matter of Fact show, wrote an insightful opinion piece on March 28, about what has happened to the standards of decency in our world since World War 1. It was in response to the cricketing world’s attempted ball tampering scandal. It’s from a worldly, not Christian perspective, but exudes Christian principle. Grant makes these telling observations (Comments in brackets added)- In a world of fake news (Lies), politicians who lie and bankers who have fleeced customers (Steal), why do we expect athletes to be the defenders of our collective morality? (Why not? Cricketers are not morally exempt)
Amid all the hyperventilating, outrage and disappointment at our cheating cricketers, we would do well to take a closer look at our society and how it has bred a winner-takes-all, win-at-all-costs attitude. (Anti Christian selfishness. Remember the basic Christian axiom of ‘Do unto others’)
Sport is not our saviour (It amongst other entertainments, has become an obsession that replaces true Christianity). It doesn't exist on some higher plane. It is a reflection of us. Our cricketers are the products of our age, where the individual is exalted above society. This is no accident: this is the world we have created. American political scientist Patrick Deneen says our society is "caught in a trap of its own making" (Satan’s making), where the worship of the individual has created a moral and psychic vacuum. It is rooted in a movement that emerged out of the ruptures of World War I and the Great Depression. This global order was founded by a group of intellectuals and policymakers, among them the Austro-Hungarian Nobel Prize winning economist Friedrich Hayek. …. He believed in the rights and power of individuals. ………. Civilisation, he argued, begins with "the individual in pursuit of his own ends".
In his book Free Market Fairness, political scientist John Tomassi writes that for Hayek "the phrase ‘social justice’ is a piece of incoherent nonsense". ….. (Social justice is underpinned by the values inherent in scripture.) Historian Quinn Slobodian, in his new book Globalists: The End of Empire and the Birth Of Neoliberalism, writes: "Neoliberals, we were told, believed in global laissez-fare: self-regulating markets, shrunken states, and the reduction of all human motivation to the one-dimensional rational self-interest of Homo economicus".
Cricketers — like big business and big finance — live in Slobodian's world of "militant globalisation". They exist in the same moral vacuum Patrick Deneen has identified. In a world free of borders, (Boundaries of right and wrong. i.e. The Ten Commandments) to whom are we accountable? (God in the judgement.)
Quinn Slobodian writes that the 20th century "had proved neoliberals right … all gods other than capitalism failed". (Not true – The Great God of Heaven never fails, we of the 20th and 21st centuries have failed him) ……… In desperation many people are swayed by populists and demagogues, in America they elected Donald Trump to "drain the swamp".
Grant’s opinion piece was accompanied by the advertisement of Steve Smith selling Weet-Bix and the slogan How Many Do You Do?
Amazingly, there is strong support for President Trump from the Evangelical arm of Christianity in the USA and also other parts of the world. What a contradiction of standards! Where does Donald Trump as a president of the lamb like beast fit in to end time prophecies of Daniel 11 and Revelation 13 (Rev 13: 11 to 15 - Then I saw another beast coming up out of the earth, and he had two horns like a lamb and spoke like a dragon. 12 And he exercises all the authority of the first beast in his presence, and causes the earth and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed. ……….. And he deceives those who dwell on the earth ….. He was granted power to give breath to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak and cause as many as would not worship the image of the beast to be killed.)
Pastor Tim Roosenberg, who came and spoke for STL in Australia in November 2014, on the topic of Islam and Christianity, has this to say about where possibly Donald Trump fits into the prophecy of Daniel 11 - Trump. He does seem to be playing a major role in Daniel 11. See a recent presentation that addresses this at http://www.highlandadventist.org go to the live steam page and look down to the sermon “Jesus is Coming Again Daniel 11 Says So”. You should watch this as it shows how Daniel 11 has been, is being fulfilled since I was with you. Trump is much like Constantine. The right kind of leader to form the Image to the Beast. Prophetic yes. Good probably not. He is giving Evangelicals and Israel things they want.
That is why they see him as a new Cyrus. All tells me Jesus could be coming very soon.
It is reported that President Trump, in his campaign running up to the 2016 Presidential Election in the USA, was asked by an interviewer if he had ever found the need to confess anything. His answer I have never done anything I need to make confession for. The Bible says All have sinned and come short of the glory of God! While other key figures in the public eye are not on record of speaking similar words, their actions say it for them.
God has a method for the nonconforming and transforming of our minds from the values that pervade our society. It’s called sanctification. Why don’t we hear more about it? Ellen White describes the process of sanctification God wants us to experience beautifully, clearly and practically. She writes -
Sanctification is a progressive work. The successive steps are set before us in the words of Peter: “Giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; and to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; and to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 1:5-8) .... Here is a course by which we may be assured that we shall never fall. Those who are thus working upon the plan of addition in obtaining the Christian graces have the assurance that God will work upon the plan of multiplication in granting them the gifts of His Spirit.... By divine grace, all who will may climb the shining steps from earth to heaven, and at last, “with songs and everlasting joy” (Isaiah 35:10), enter through the gates into the city of God. (The Sanctified Life, 93-95.)
Paul, writing to the church in Philippi has some sound advice to offer – Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. (Philippians 4: 8). What are our thoughts?

Understanding the Godhead: Joel's Journey
Recently Joel Ridgeway, STL’s Media Producer, told his story of how he as someone who did not believe the Biblical position on the Three Co-Eternal Persons of the Godhead, studied himself into becoming a believer in the Heavenly Trio. You can share in his experience by reading his book or viewing the DVD we have made of his spiritual journey. See the attachment for full details.
Christian greetings from Cherryl and the STL Team.
